Formation of Flotanomers
With the vision of creating interest in society to indulge and evolve more in the air industry, Flotanomers was born. The air industry has its own precedence and bonuses, and this makes a great asset for our immediate future. Our society is greatly benefitted by its applications and performance when compared to several other means of transportation. In our journey, we delved into understanding the importance of air transportation for its several applications. It was during our college days in Sahyadri we developed a keen interest towards aero-modelling techniques which later developed into a passion towards Aero-design and its development.
The team which later formed into a company bloomed from “Team Challengers”, one among the four Launch pads of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. Team Challengers was first sculpted by the founders of Flotanomers. It was during the development of Team Challengers, we started building and testing various models for the National events and International events. During this tenure, the team designed a dozen models among which three were completely designed and developed by the present Flotanomers team. Furthermore, these models won us laurels both nationally and internationally, and this pushed us more towards our interest.
My college provided ample space to set up launch pads to work night and day. Since we wouldn’t have to go around killing time to look for resources and workspace, it was convenient for the team to focus on things that required more time. With the assistance and support from my college, approaching real time problems and its practical implementation was done very much at our own pace. All we had to do was to develop our ideas into an apt solution which will would benefit society. This became one of our strong motives since we were able to utilize our time very efficiently. Meanwhile, making use of the time, effort and finance and faith that our parents constantly have for us drove us to simply get better at what we were doing. It is indeed very fulfilling for us since we focused for a good cause to help make this world a better place by rightful implementation of technology.
Achievements and small successes in this journey gave the team confidence and immense knowledge to start a venture that could be established to serve the society even better. During our journey, we understood many challenges to be faced while establishing a stable drone service company since it is an emerging field in the country. Ruling down to several possibilities and opportunities, a stable, dedicated and determined team was formed within the members of Team Challengers and we bring forth our very own drone service company, Flotanomers R & D Pvt Ltd.
The formation of the company took several brain storming sessions from within the team. It took us about two months into scheduling meetings and setting up agendas in order to bring our ideas to reality. Thanks to Probid and Amal who invested their valuable time and support in the early stages of development and suggesting our company name and for also doing the necessary registrations for this venture. After a period of time, Gouse Khan and Gerald K Antony joined the team for the development of the technology required for the company. Thus, our company, Flotanomers was launched on 12th July legally after a year of selfless effort from the team. Amrutha Khandare, who runs a restaurant in Hyderabad at present with her partners, is our company’s first CEO. Vishnu Pradeep joined the team and he works for Creative Work and publicity. And lastly, I deal with the Management and Business of the company.
Flotanomers engages students in primary as well as pre university by conducting several workshops, most of them being aeromodelling. As expected, these workshops resulted into creating a strong impact over the students, driving them more towards their interests. As a result, this kind of an impact drew us to develop two products, Geroch and M Fly. Geroch is a mobile controlled Hobby plane which can help beginners learn fixed wing dynamics and flying. M Fly is our Hobby Quad Copter. Thanks to the tech team, our products have been developed with great interest and efficiency. Gouse, the Innovation Head and Gerald, the Technical Head are taking over these projects to develop these products further which will help a lot of beginners to learn how to fly. We strongly believe it to be a good beginner’s tool for our future aero-space enthusiasts. Our beloved Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, has been a constant supporter and mentor even today, and team is always grateful to have him as a source of guidance.
Alongside these developments, we also got the chance to survey the Andhra Pradesh Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in collaboration with the world’s second largest drone company, Terra Drone (as per 2019 Statistics). We were collaborated with them as data collection partners for the Andhra Pradesh Survey Project. We were able to survey 4,083 sq.km area of land using our devices. Being a part of this project offered the kind of exposure we were greatly in need of, and this experience led us to develop our very own survey drone, Flotmapper. With a few test flights and implementation of better techniques, further developments were made to form a complete surveying drone.
One of our remarkable projects in development is the Integration of Navic Chips, in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), wherein a nationwide Hackathon was conducted for students pursuing engineering. This first and only hackathon on the NAVIC chip became a huge success with the help of ISRO, Challengers, Dreamers and Sahyadri. Five of the scientists from ISRO are presently working on NAVIC technology witnessed this event and its products. Our tech team was completely involved in the three-day event, helping students as well as themselves understand NAVIC applications and its implementations. Our team was able to have developed a prototype of NAVIC integrated Drone. So far, we are satisfied with the progress. We thank our mentors, my college and all the student interns for being a part of this.
Our vision is to serve the society and its people, support and help them into becoming better, productive and creative individuals using the most advanced technology available. With our services, we aim to help the masses; irrespective of a person’s background. With our aid, we look forward to continue to help eradicate scarcity of resources for the communities that are unable to access them. We strive to make the optimum use of transportation for quick deliveries and emergencies. We also are willing to provide employment to the masses inclined to this field of interest. Because we believe in providing apt solutions where wastage of resources is kept minimal.
Indeed, this is just the beginning. But as a team, united we will make it happen, be it a small contribution or a major benefaction to society, as long as we make this world a better place.
